An introduction to attractive work in the factory of the future

Cecilia Berlin from Chalmers talks about how demographic changes are affecting the conditions for future production.

Demographic changes mean the working population is becoming increasingly diversified. These changes mean that, in future, production must attract more older and younger employees, and workplaces must adapt to accommodate a broader span of individuals with various physical and mental capacities.

In the film, she talks about the challenges faced and touches on the fundamentals of attractive work. Despite being published in 2014, the findings are still relevant, with many of the challenges relating to future production remaining.

Cecilia has since authored a manual about the role of ergonomics as a cornerstone of the socially sustainable production workplaces of the future. "Production Ergonomics: Designing Work Systems to Support Optimal Human Performance" is freely available via the open access publisher Ubiquity Press, and can be obtained here.
