How do we become an inclusive, norm-critical company?

This article provides an introduction to the concept of a norm-critical, inclusive work environment. There is also a link to a checklist which outlines how you can work effectively towards becoming an attractive employer.

Altering the language you use as well as group behaviours allows you to create greater cohesion, which helps to boost productivity and creativity in a group. You can also avoid cases of bullying and discrimination. From a digitalisation perspective, it is important to consider what factors can include or discriminate at your company, such as the introduction of a new technology or service.

A norm-critical approach means identifying and analysing the norms that are prevalent in a company or group. A norm is an unwritten rule which applies in a particular group. An example of a norm in a project group could be always arriving on time or wearing a particular type of clothing.

Being inclusive means that everyone in a working group is acknowledged, and has an equal say in what goes on.
