Digitization - a potential for a sustainable future

For us to reach a fossil-free Sweden by the year 2040, a major change is needed. And in order for us to succeed in our transition in the technology industry, we need collaboration, innovation and that we benefit from the possibilities of digitalisation.

Industry and the energy industry have a great responsibility to contribute to the transition towards a sustainable society. As Sweden and the world are electrified, greater demands are placed on the electricity grid, which at the same time is adjusting to integrate more renewable energy sources. How, then, should we feel safe with the car being recharged and the lamp lit, even the gray and windy days? This is where digitalization comes in.

In the energy industry, our digital tools are used, for example, to optimize energy flows, extend the product life cycle of critical components and anticipate maintenance. Digitalization creates a more reliable energy supply, which in turn leads to greater opportunities to electrify the transport industry and industry, which today constitutes 65% of Sweden's annual CO2 emissions. A digital and smart grid thus creates opportunities for more sustainable production.

But even though digitalisation is transforming the industry - both at the technical level and how we do business - it's about people! And skills.

Young people have digitalization and sustainability in their DNA, which creates great opportunities for all businesses where young people get the chance to contribute. The Smart Fabriker project is an extremely good example of a business where young people make a difference, for real.

Strong trends in digitalisation, automation and globalization make it more difficult to predict what competencies will be demanded in the future. By working early on with lifelong learning, we get used to constantly expanding our knowledge and skills. In this way, we embrace digitalisation and the opportunities that are created - together to create a better and more sustainable world.
